The Touch of Life Technologies OPUS platform provides a virtual-reality based medical skills training environment that is focused on providing a high-end experience and strong return on investment by addressing a wide variety of medical skills through a single hardware platform.

Versatile Platform for Many Specialties

The OPUS platform was designed with a focus on optimizing your hardware investment through a platform that can serve many specialties with little or no hardware modifications. The OPUS hardware accomplishes this by co-locating high-resolution 3D graphics with two high-performance haptic feedback devices to provide an interactive and immersive environment in which a variety of procedures can be performed. Virtual tools including markers, sterilization applicators, needles and syringes, scalpels, forceps, retractors and ultrasound transducers are available within this environment and can be leveraged through software to provide additional procedures and address new specialties via simple software updates.

Virtual Patients from Real Anatomy

Based on real anatomy from the Visible Human Project® and other high-resolution photographic datasets the OPUS platform provides the most anatomically accurate virtual patients available. Combined with proprietary technologies for altering morphology, posture and pathologies the OPUS platform can be extended through software to provide a limitless supply of virtual patients for trainees to practice and test their skills on.

Guided Curricula with Quantitative Feedback

Each OPUS module provides a completely autonomous training experience through content and programming to guide, critique and score the trainee. Through standard media elements including text, audio, images and videos along with more advanced interactive anatomic animations in which the trainee can visualize and interact with complex anatomical presentations the trainee is provided with the necessary background information clinical standards for each procedure. As the trainee continues into the simulation to perform the procedure in a risk-free virtual environment OPUS records their performance and provides sophisticated feedback on the trainee's progress.

OPUS RA Module

The OPUS Regional Anesthesia module guides trainees through the anatomical and procedural aspects of peripheral nerve blocks. In the module, trainees can learn and practice administration of blocks including femoral nerve, interscalene, paravertebral and epidural using palpation, nerve stimulation and ultrasound guidance. While these may be virtual patients, they give trainees real experience with detailed instructions and measures that combine to guide, critique and score the trainee's progress.

The OPUS Central Venous Access module allows trainees to practice varying approaches for access via the internal jugular, femoral and subclavian veins. By standardizing proficiency measures for an essential skill that crosses a large number of specialties, OPUS CVA can help reduce risk and improve patient safety.

The OPUS Lumbar Puncture module guides trainees through the challenging procedure of lumbar puncture, where subtle changes in resistance and accurate determination of needle advancement and orientation determine efficacy and patient safety. In this highly accurate virtual environment leveraging real anatomy from the Visible Human Project, learners gain experience and build confidence through comprehensive, quantitative feedback on their performance.
